Doctor Who, The Girl Who Waited--My thoughts

This was one episode I've been anticipating for months and it didn't let me down.
Wow....WOW. Amazing acting, wonderful directing, great score and fabulous writing!
Karen Gillan was outstanding (finally!) as older Amy. She deserves a BAFTA nod for sure!

And this episode definitely deserves a Hugo nod!
This was the "Doctor-light' episode of the season and I really didn't miss him much!
The end was touching, and yes, I cried. ;)
Rory saying to the Doctor, "You're turning me into you!". Sad, but true. This is a harder, more unfeeling Doctor than we're used to seeing. :(

One thing bugged me, though. The Amys had to think of something very important to get younger-Amy into the correct time stream...So they thought about the Macarena and her first kiss with Rory?
Really? Not HER DAUGHTERS BIRTH?? A KISS was the most important thing?!
Argh.

Lastly, one thing I've noticed...There seems to be a lot of 'double-Amy's' this season.
Ganger Amy, Teselecta Amy, Doll Amy, older Amy... Is there a reason for this theme? Does Moffat have something up his sleeve? Is he trying to tell us something with all these Amy's?
Hmm...

Fan Expo 2011--A First Timers Experience

I was so, SO lucky to attend my very first con, Fan Expo Canada in Toronto on Sunday, August 28.

You see, on Burdin's Comics (a local comic shop) Facebook page, he posted that he'd be having his annual bus trip on the Sunday and that the tickets would be $10 off.
Well, how could I pass that up?

I'd been waffling back and forth for weeks...to go...to not go...
Seeing that post made up my mind for me.

And I'm so frickin' glad I went.

I spent most of my time at the SPACE booth, since I feel like I know that awesome crew so well.

I met a great Facebook friend, Frank, and hung out with him.

Spent a little bit of time talking with the always-awesome, Ajay Fry, who I love to learn the ins and outs and behind the scenes stuff from!

I met the fabulous Robin Dunne from Sanctuary, Laura Mennell and Warren Christie from Alphas.

And another wonderful internet friend, the talented author, Nikki Stafford.

Yes, I did a once-around to see all the booths and the autograph sessions...But really, I was happy to be in my comfort zone, hanging with MY people....People I can relate to...People I like!

The InnerSPACE panel was fun, too!

And, of course, I have to mention the fact that I was standing less than 5 feet away from William Shatner during his interview with Teddy Wilson.

Speaking of Teddy, I DID get to see him and talk with him...and I did get a hug, of course. Teddy was SO busy this time that I didn't really see him much.
Next time, Teddy!

My Daleks were a big hit. I'd made 15 and had 4 left at the end of the day. I gave those to Annabelle to give out at the SPACE offices. ;)

So, you can see, it was  GREAT day, full of friends and fun. :)

The highlights?

Ajay waving at me from the panel. That made me LOL.
Meeting Nikki Stafford!
Meeting Joanna, one of the awesome SPACE producers!
Ajay handing me an autographed pic of him, complete with personal message just for me. That actually made me tear up! It was so sweet that he'd thought of me. :)
Mark Askwith's story about a drunken Lance Henrickson!
Hanging with Annabelle. :)
Seeing Katie Sackhoff and Marina Sirtis from afar!
John Astin literally bumping into me and then apologizing for it!
Annabelle snagging a photo of me with Robin Dunne!
Talking Alphas and Heroes with Laura and Warren.
Seeing Sam!

Next year, I cosplay! ;)

Doctor Who, Let's Kill Hitler--My Thoughts

My mind is seriously blown! What an episode! Fast-paced, non-stop!
First--Alex Kingston was BRILLIANT in this episode. If DW was an American show, she'd deserve an Emmy, and I hope she does get a BAFTA nod!

Who called Mels=Melody right away? Yep, me too. Mels was ALL River, for sure.
"You named your daughter....after your daughter." Ha!

One things just irks me, though. How can Amy and Rory be okay with not having their baby? Yes, Melody grows up with her parents...but (and I speak as a parent here), I wouldn't be satisfied with that at all, and I certainly wouldn't be gallivanting all over the universe, knowing that she's out there, somewhere, being raised a killer!

Onto 'The Question'...What is it? The oldest question in the universe.
What do I think? I think the question that will bring the Silence, the oldest question in the universe is..."Doctor Who?"
Think about it!
When we find out the Doctor's name, the show would end....and Silence would fall (our televisions would go 'silent'...no more DW).
Since the Doctor Who universe started in 1963, the question has been, "Doctor Who?"
Make sense?

And the last thing I noticed, that may be a coincidence, but knowing Steven Moffat...
'You have 32 minutes to live.", says young Amelia Pond over and over in the TARDIS.

Remember way back in The Impossible Astronaut? The Doctor dies on April 22, 2011 at 5:02pm.
The envelopes everyone gets tell them to meet at the lake on April 22, 2011 at 4:30pm.
That's 32 minutes before the astronaut shoots the Doctor to death.
Ooooooh. ;)

One of the highlight for me? Mels/River finally telling 'us' who taught her to fly the TARDIS.
She once said to the Doctor, "I was taught by the best. Shame you were busy that day."
Yes, she was taught by the best. The TARDIS herself taught Mels/River to fly her, while the Doctor was busy dying!

All in all, this episode was right up there with 'The Doctor's Wife' as one of the best of the season for me. I really, really loved it. :)

Okay, I have another theory about 'The Question'.
In Day of the Moon, the Silents say Amy will be the one "to bring the Silence", which I believe means Amy will be the one that will ask the question.

Moffat has said that he doesn't like that the Doctor has become as big as he is...that his enemies run in fear at the very mention of his name. The Doctor has become too powerful and too well-known.

So what if Moffat somehow decides to 'reset' the universe and everyone (okay, maybe not EVERYONE. The Daleks, for one, would have to remember him) forgets the Doctor.

Amy could be the one who asks the question..."Doctor? Doctor Who?"

Yes, it would be a bit Donna-y...but this time it wouldn't just be the companion forgetting. It would be the whole human race.

Doctor Who, The Almost People--My Thoughts

So, epic or what??

Did you catch Tom Baker (4th Doctor) and David Tennant's (10th Doctor) voices when the ganger Doctor was trying to accept his regenerations?

"Would you like a jelly baby?"

 "Hello, I'm The Doctor".

EPIC!

Okay, lets get this out of the way first...Things I was right about! (yes, let me gloat a bit!) :)
-TWO Amy's! Totally called it!
-I said the Doctor's shoes would be how we'd be able to tell the two Doctor's apart!
-"Breathe, Amy". Called that too! She WAS giving birth!

So, because the Doctor's switched and the real Doctor was the ganger Doctor "all along", the real Doctor now knows he dies because Amy told what she thought was the ganger Doctor! Ooooh!

Angry Rory, when Jennifer fooled him? Angry Rory = HAWT Rory! ;)

Real Doctor says to Ganger Doctor, "Your molecular level CAN survive this" and he tosses ganger Doctor the real sonic screwdriver before ganger Doctor "melts".
Do you REALLY think that's the last we'll see of ganger Doctor?

In the TARDIS, the Doctor tells Rory to "stand away" from Amy...and Rory does. This is a HUGE leap of faith for Rory and shows how much he now really does trust the Doctor.

The Doctor says to ganger Amy, "You haven't been here in a very, very long time."
Now, we here in Canada don't see Doctor Who Confidential, but the producer has said that Amy has been a ganger for episode 1-6.
So the Amy that we've seen for pretty much this WHOLE season has been a ganger!

MIND BLOWING, right?!?!

Doctor Who, The Rebel Flesh--My Thoughts

First...Muse? Awesome!

Okay, so it's OBVIOUS the Doctor knows more than he's letting on about the monastery, the gangers and the flesh!
The 'Doctor' has clearly been there before. He steps out of the TARDIS talking about the cockerel before it has been seen by anyone. Knows that the building is a 13th century monastery before he takes 4 steps. Knows that the people coming are 'almost people'. And knows that the flesh is early technology.

So HOW does he know these things??

At the beginning, he wants to drop Rory and Amy off for fish and chips. Why? What does he want to do alone?

The snow globe! Why does he keep checking it? It looks to me like a little model of the monastery inside.

Nice to see Hatch-Patch Lady back again!

Here are my theories--

I think the Doctor has been through this before somehow. I wonder...and this is WAY, WAY out there...but I wonder if Amy might be a clone.
I think the Silence may have switched her when they had her and she's been ganger Amy since Day of the Moon.
This would explain the "pregnant/not pregnant" thing.

The ganger Doctor--WHOA! Didn't see that coming AT ALL!

This adds a whole new twist to the series!
Is the ganger Doctor who gets shot in The Impossible Astronaut? Is it possible that he somehow gets away in the next episode and lives for 200 years? Hiding beneath the Queen's skirt, dancing in a Laurel and Hardy movie, escaping from prison in a balloon? ...and then the real Doctor, OUR Doctor is the one in the astronaut suit and shoots the ganger Doctor?
Or, perhaps it's a red herring. The ganger will die at the end of the next episode and we'll once again be left wondering. ;)

The gangers--Did you notice the sneezy guy? And the guy that had the wedding ring on a chain around his neck (his ganger did not)? How about the Doctor's shoes dissolving in the acid?
I'm guessing these will the ways the TARDIS crew will be able to tell the difference between the gangers/real people.

And I must say I LOVED Rory is this episode! He's really become a favourite of mine this season! I'm pleasantly surprised at that. :)

Doctor Who, The Doctor's Wife--My Thoughts

First, right off the bat in what seemed to be a throwaway line, we found out the answer to a huge question that we've been asking for decades.
YES, apparently Timelords CAN change gender when they regenerate!
What could that mean for future incarnations of Doctors, Masters, etc?
Veeeeery interesting!

Second--Rory's dying. Okay, so he didn't ACTUALLY die in this episode...but they did make sure to show him dead, whether it was real or not.
I don't think it's coincidence that in every single episode this season, Rory has died. Could it be that he's actually dead in another dimension/timeline? Or could it mean that he's SUPPOSED to be dead in THIS timeline (maybe he was supposed to have actually stayed dead when he was shot by the silurian?) and Amy's bringing him back messed things up?
Hmmm.

Third--Again, Rory mentions his being a nurse. Again, he's done this in every episode of the season so far. Again, I don't think this is coincidence! This is going to mean something in future episodes! Mark my words! ;)

Fourth-Did anyone catch Idris/TARDIS saying, "I love you" to the Doctor as she "died". Broke my heart! :(

Fifth--"The only water in the forest is the river". Obviously, this is a reference to River Song and another thing that will come to pass in future episodes.
But what forest? The forest in Byzantuim, where the weeping angels were? Or the "forest" in the library, where River met her demise? Is it possible that River will somehow be "reborn" (Amy's pregnancy, perhaps??) or "downloaded" into a new body as the TARDIS was?
Hmmm!

I really, really loved this episode. It was hilariously touching and devastatingly sad. I think it's my second favourite Matt Smith episode, just below Vincent and the Doctor!

Doctor Who, The Curse of the Black Spot--My Thoughts

It was...okay. Not horrible, but not great. Just okay. There were some continuity issues that bugged me and the story could have been better. What was the point of the kid (Toby), really?
Where did the pirate that Toby scratched with the cutlass go? One second he was there baracading the door, the next, when Avery and the Doctor went to get everyone, he was gone. Error or something more meaningful? Very Moffat-esque if it will eventually mean something!

WHO IS THE EYEPATCH LADY?!?

"It's fine. You're doing fine". Is she a midwife? Is Amy giving birth in another reality/timeline/dimension and we're getting flashes of what THAT Amy is seeing?
Reflective surfaces can be doors to other dimensions. Didn't the astronaut that shot the future Doctor come from a very calm, REFLECTIVE lake? Hmmm!
Rory dying. Again. He's become the "Kenny" Of Doctor Who. It's getting a little tiresome, IMO!
The Siren. Very spooky and very cool!

So what if this season of Doctor Who is backwards? My first thought was the the first 2 episodes were a part of the finale episode...But now I'm wondering if the WHOLE season might just be flipped around!
The Impossible Astronaut and Day of the Moon WERE the two-part finale! And the finale we'll see in September/October is actually the FIRST episode.
Curse of the Black Spot is actually episode 11, The Doctor's Wife is episode 10, etc.
